Student Retreats and Trainings

Hyalite Reservoir Student Programs Summer Retreat
Montana INBRE typically hosts a student training and cohort-building summer retreat that is open to all Montana-based undergraduates conducting biomedical research in the state during the summer. Students participating in one of the Montana INBRE Scholars programs are especially encouraged to attend, though students from other undergraduate research programs or lab groups are also welcome.
The retreat is free for students and mentors to attend and takes place at a rustic mountain retreat located directly on the reservoir’s shore. Training topics vary each year depending on speaker availability and cohort needs but typically cover broad areas such as scientific communication, graduate school and career planning, building research collaborations, having difficult conversations, self-advocacy, and other topics designed to help propel students toward scientific or medical careers.
The retreat also offers cohort-building opportunities and time for outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
